February 26th: The Land Development Agency (LDA) has commenced early-stage consultation on the Donore Project at St Teresa’s Gardens. The Donore Project is the working title for the project to develop new sustainable, social and cost rental housing at the former St. Teresa’s Gardens site. The project is being progressed by the LDA for Dublin City Council.

The Donore Project will be developed in line with Dublin City Council’s Masterplan for the area. This ties in with adjoining Masterplan sites and creates an integrated, connected community. While the final design of the project will only be completed post consultation with local stakeholders, it is estimated that the project could deliver between 600 and 700 homes in the heart of the City. The development will also include high quality public realm, green spaces and recreational facilities.

The first phase of engagement will be about identifying the issues that residents and key stakeholders in the area would like considered in the design of the project. As part of this outreach, the LDA has launched a project website; www.donoreproject.ie.

An online survey has also been launched seeking views on a range of related subjects. We would encourage anyone interested to complete the 5- minute survey which will help to inform issues and priorities for addressing as we progress the designs for a new distinctive and sustainable neighbourhood at the heart of the Donore area.

The LDA has appointed a Community Liaison Officer for the project, who will engage directly with stakeholders. A leaflet drop is also taking place in the coming weeks in the immediate area to highlight the project.

A number of meetings have already been held with St Teresa’s Gardens Regeneration Board and local representatives. It is intended to expand the number of engagements in the coming months, using Covid appropriate methods.

A Design Team is already in place for the project and they will take the outcome of these initial discussions and incorporate them into an initial design. This will form the basis of further consultation later in the year. A final design will then be shared with the community in advance of an application for planning permission, which is targeted for early next year.

LDA Chief Executive, John Coleman.

“The LDA is delighted to launch this early-stage consultation for the Donore Project. We believe that we can advance a project which enhances the lives of the people in this historic part of Dublin. The creation of sustainable, connected social and affordable housing is central to our mission and we are proud to be working with Dublin City Council on this project.”
