The Gasworks
The Gasworks on Dock Road in Limerick is set on a 1.2 hectare site, located on the junction of Dock Rd and O’Curry Street. The land was acquired by the Agency from Gas Networks Ireland (GNI).
Located beside the Dock Clock, the site is less than a 15-minute walk from Limerick city centre, with existing bus links connecting to primary and secondary schools, UL, University Hospital Limerick and the Crescent Shopping Centre.
The site has the potential to deliver 285 new affordable homes. The proposed homes will include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments across three blocks ranging from 1-8 storeys.
Plans for the development also include provisions for a new public plaza, landscaped gardens, communal spaces, play areas, retail units and a childcare facility.
Existing heritage artifacts, including the freestanding limestone wall which faces on to Dock Road, will be retained and incorporated into the design.
The Lodgement of a planning application for this site marks an important milestone for the Agency's delivery in Limerick, following on from the launch of cost rental homes at The Mills in Castletroy earlier in 2025.
